The Japanese disaster happened approximately 4 weeks ago. They are working feverishly to regain their old form, but there are still many concerns, including the Fukushima Nuclear Plant. Many reports are made regarding this matter in the media, and we received some inquiries regarding our products. We’d like to give the following information about the seafood that we carry at our restaurant.

First of all, be assured that every food product we serve, not only seafood, passed the FDA standard.

Tuna is from Boston, Chili, Ecuador, or Hawaii (depends on availability); Salmon from Scotland; Fluke from the local fish boat (near Long Island); Striped Bass from a farm in the USA; Sea Urchin from California; Shrimp from Indonesia. Only Yellowtail is from Japan, but it is farm-raised in Kyushu Island, the most southern island in Japan, far from Fukushima, which is in northern part of Japan.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask us. We will continue to serve our customers with honesty and best intention.

Dear customers,

After we sent the letter about Japan’s disaster last month, many customers returned the prayer. Thank you so much for sending the warm thoughts. Many lives were swept away by the powerful Tsunami. Whole towns were destroyed and gone. We’ve never seen scenes so horrible.
They are now facing the serious situation with the nuclear plant, as you know. We couldn’t tear our eyes from the news. It is still very dangerous, but many people are working very hard 24/7. Some people from outside companies, outside the area, are working to help avoid the worst result. It is really a suicide mission. We just keep praying for them. Japan will recover and rebuild their country, regardless of what it takes or how long it needs. Please keep sending your prayers for them.

Dear customers,

Last week’s disaster in Japan was the most horrible occurrence we learned of since we were born. We have a lot of earthquakes all over Japan, so Japanese people always expect the huge one. But this time was totally over their expectation. Now the nuclear plant is the thing of most concern for everybody in the world. Noriko’s 81-year old mother lives in Fukushima, 30 miles from the plant.
Fortunately she has no problems; however, she cannot leave the house for fear of radiation poisoning. The devastating tsunami took many many people’s lives. A lot of people lost their family, houses, jobs, and communities that they were living with. We can’t imagine how terrible it is. We, living here, don’t know what to do for them. Since last Friday, we have been continuing to pray for them while searching for the best thing to do. We have decided to donate 5% of our sales to a relief committee. We believe this is the best way for us to help them. We will run the collection until June 30th.
As you may have noticed, Japanese people are very patient. They respect the lives of others. We are very proud of them. We believe they will recover from this disaster even if it is a long and winding road.

                                                                                          From Yuki and Noriko Tamano
